Besides the huge financial impact the military offers Beaufort, SC and the Lowcountry, the residents of Beaufort just like having the military here in town.

There are more than 17,000 active-duty military -- Marines and Navy -- personnel at MCAS Beaufort, The U.S. Marine Corps Recruit Depot at Parris Island, and Naval Hospital Beaufort. In addition, Parris Island produces more than 20,000 Marines each year.

Because Beaufort is such a terrific place to live, many Marines choose to come back here after they leave active duty. More than 10,000 military retirees living in and around Beaufort.

When you are new in town, nobody has all the answers. But maybe we can provide a few of them here. Or at least get you pointed in the right direction.

If you are a new Marine arrival, recruit, or a family member, here are some links which new arrivals might find useful.

The Parris Island website provides excellent information regarding graduation dates, Depot leadership,   frequently-asked questions, and more.

The MCAS Beaufort website offers information on the base units, leadership, and more.

Both websites offer information on restaurants  and Marine Corps Exchange.

There are two locally-produced Marine newspapers, The Boot and The Jetstream.

Beaufort is convenient to two international airports -- Savannah International Airport and Charleston International Airport.  Each airport serves different airlines, and different hubs.
